Joey DeFrancesco
JOEY DeFRANCESCO officially emerged on the jazz scene in 1989 with the release of his first album on Columbia entitled “All Of Me.” Not only was this the introduction of a major new talent (at 17 years old), but it also resurrected the Hammond B-3 organ as a viable jazz medium.
While artists like Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff and others were still playing great, there were no young artists on the horizon to carry the torch for future generations. Joey DeFrancesco has been carrying that torch for over 15 years and has taken Jazz Organ playing to a whole new level.
The last 6 years has seen JOEY DeFRANCESCO winning #1 Organist in Downbeat Magazines Critics polls.
His trio featuring Pat Bianchi (keyboards) and Byron Landham (drums) has been touring the globe steadily for 2 years enabling them to achieve a cohesive group sound. Indeed after a decade of touring as a leader JOEY DeFRANCESCO is reaching an artistic apex.
In addition, Joey DeFrancesco participates in separate all star collaborations with Larry Coryell, Bobby Hutcherson, George Coleman, a Miles Davis Tribute Band, David Sanborn, and Steve Gadd to name a few.
His latest recording, 40 (High Note), in honor of turning 40, features five original recordings filled with straight ahead jazz and blues infused pieces. While Joey performs cuts from his new release, he always includes various selections from his vast recording library with each show, offering a unique musical experience every time.
