"FOUR GENERATIONS OF MILES"
GEORGE COLEMAN, BUSTER WILLIAMS, JIMMY COBB, & MIKE STERN

“FOUR GENERATIONS OF MILES” is an ALL STAR band that spans of scope of MILES DAVIS career featuring 4 Davis alumni – Jimmy Cobb, Mike Stern, Buster Williams and Sonny Fortune - each one a star in his own right. Their history with Miles Davis covers over 4 decades of iconic trumpeter's music.

The elder statesman of this ensemble, drummer Jimmy Cobb whose inspirational work with Miles, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Wynton Kelly and Paul Chambers spanned from 1957 until 1963, and includes the masterpiece Kind of Blue, the most popular jazz recording in history, as well as many other Davis classics.

Bassist Buster Williams toured with Miles Davis in 1967-68, replacing Ron Carter in the trumpeter's legendary quintet with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Tony Williams and is heard on the groundbreaking Directions LP.

Saxophonist Sonny Fortune began touring with Miles in 1974 and recorded four LPs, Big Fun, Agartha, Pangaea and Get Up With It – during Miles Fusion Funk Era.

Bookending this group is guitarist Mike Stern – who was recruited by Davis to play a key role in his celebrated comeback band of 1981. During his three-year period with Miles, Stern appeared on three recordings with the jazz maestro Man with the Horn, Star People and the live We Want Miles…

Covering over four decades of the ever-changing music by one of the most important figures in jazz and contemporary music this all star ensemble pays tribute to the great trumpeter in what would be his 85th year.
