NEA JAZZ MASTERS
BOBBY HUTCHERSON & CEDAR WALTON QUARTET
Two of Jazz Music's most esteemed artists BOBBY HUTCHERSON and CEDAR WALTON are being recognized as NEA JAZZ MASTERS in January 2010. This is the nation's highest honor in jazz - joining a pantheon of great figures including Ahmad Jamal, Betty Carter, Dizzie Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, & Wayne Shorter to name a few.
In celebration of this recognition, BOBBY HUTCHERSON & CEDAR WALTON are joining to present a quartet of Jazz Mastery for concert touring in 2010. This ensemble will be rounded out by two of the most respected rhythm section players today - David Williams on bass, and Al Foster on drums.
The coming together of these master musicians should be among the concert highlights of the 2010 performing arts season!
The Critics Speak:
On Bobby Hutcherson:
"(Bobby Hutcherson) The picture of cool, except for his arms and hands, which were blurs of movement that work magic, playing the vibes in both senses of the word. Hutcherson is one of the world's greatest marimba players, too" - San Francisco Chronicle
On Cedar Walton:
"Walton has long been recognized as an innovative jazz composer: his deft harmonic touch, tightening of form and liberal sprinkling of Latin rhythms enriched the jazz mainstream. And as this gig (at Ronnie Scott's) confirmed, his bands are always top-notch, with hard-swinging soloists who relish the challenge of Walton's harmonic detail." - Financial Times
